    • A beautiful tabulate coral

    • You may want to look further under Cnidaria.

    • Are you sure that’s not modern?

    • No, I’m not sure if this is modern or not. I’m not an expert and try to do my research. That is why I joined this site. I’ve always loved fossil hunting in Texas where I grew up. There are so many ancient coral heads that start in the water’s edge and continue up into my in-laws back yard. Various kinds of corals are imbedded in those rocks. It’s fun finding them and trying to identify them. Aging them is far beyond anything I am capable of doing.

    • you can absolutely put an age in them. go to macrostrat.org and choose geologic map. Search up the town and play around. It’ll do a pretty good job of getting you the right data, you’ll just have to check the deposition environments to make sure the match what you find. These fossils are gorgeous

    • It’s tabulata alright
