A beautiful tabulate coral
You may want to look further under Cnidaria.
Are you sure that’s not modern?
No, I’m not sure if this is modern or not. I’m not an expert and try to do my research. That is why I joined this site. I’ve always loved fossil hunting in Texas where I grew up. There are so many ancient coral heads that start in the water’s edge and continue up into my in-laws back yard. Various kinds of corals are imbedded in those rocks. It’s fun finding them and trying to identify them. Aging them is far beyond anything I am capable of doing.
you can absolutely put an age in them. go to macrostrat.org and choose geologic map. Search up the town and play around. It’ll do a pretty good job of getting you the right data, you’ll just have to check the deposition environments to make sure the match what you find. These fossils are gorgeous
It’s tabulata alright
