A tribute to the paperclip/trombone ammonite, Diplomoceras!!!!
those are the ammonites that look the best. my favourite
That’s what ammonites would look like in Minecraft
😂
Heteromorph ammonites look like when someone stretches a 3D model distorting it
Heteromorphs are just Android-quality ammonites.
“Hello sir, I need you to complete these forms for me. “Ok sure, hold on, that’s a lot of papers!” *pulls out juvenile Diplomoceras* *sticks it on papers* “Ah, that’s better.”
Ok but in all seriousness what was the logical benefit of that shape? Just why???
@a-trilobite we’ll never know
I believe pirates used them to pick the locks of treasure chests
@leonardo-miranda I believe that these could possibly be the half way point between coiled ammonites and straight orthocones. I mean they had to change s… l…. o…… w…. l…. y…!
not just one generation orthocones the next ammonites!
@smudge-smith they lived too late though. 300 million years too late
and everything in evolution changes slowly of course
😂 I was considering that….. but wouldn’t that create drag?
shape
of course it would. that’s why nobody understands thise damn heteromorph ammonites
It looks like a trumpet. Maybe he could make a really hard noise to scare predators or to call a mate?
@benjamin-devries that would be hilarious, coming from an ammonite. but the shell is sadly not designed that way
It looks like towards the end of the shell it gets really thin and brittle, and would probably break easily and snap off, which is giving me anxiety.
@a-trilobite maybe it did break sometimes, but Mr. 2 Meter Long Paperclip normally would try to avoid these incidents
This is the best live clip for a paleontologist who wants to arrange his papers
