1 year, 1 month ago1 year, 1 month agoHi, Mason. I’m not certain, but I get the idea from talking to knowledgeable Carolinians that the term “Hawthorne” bears little value anymore to ACP stratigraphy as a formation. I defer to folks with the USGS, academia, and certain professional institutions who are doing active Carolina coastal plain stratigraphy. [Off hand, I can’t name anyone in…[Read more]

@george-phillips thank you so much for participating in ThresherFest, this is going to help our AI a good bit! Do we have any stratigraphic information we can add to make it research grade? If not, that is okay for the AI. If memory serves, the Hawthorn formation is the usual middle Miocene formation in Beaufort?

If it has been deposited in a museum, it has received a ID number already. Marking it research grade will tag it with an additional number creating 2 IDs for the same specimen and cause confusion.

2 years, 9 months ago2 years, 9 months agoWell, I guess I don’t log in very often and check messages. 🙂 Sorry I never saw your question. Anyway, Jennifer, YES–the specimen is reposited. As I am paleontology curator at Mississippi’s only formal and accredited fossil repository–the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science–and as this was collected by me, this specimen immediately became…[Read more]

4 years, 3 months ago4 years, 3 months agoHi, Jennifer. I don’t really have a personal collection. I posted this and the others from the MMNS collection–before it occurred to me that this page was primarily for specimens from personal collections. When I realized this, I thought, my posts may be helpful anyway to those in need of assistance with identifications. As for the taxonomy, just…[Read more]
