4 months, 2 weeks ago4 months, 2 weeks agois it a consistent zig zag? I find small prices of perfectly zigzagged pattern petrified woods in hells canyon South Dakota and the only thing I can really find out about it is it’s an ancestor to Sequoia trees. beautiful stuff

4 months, 2 weeks ago4 months, 2 weeks agois it dense or feel hollow? it looks similar to “binghamite” a chatoyant jasper (if dense). if light and airy or hollow it reminds me of these incomplete nodules coated with hematite. I live in Iowa and they are a pretty regular occurrence in our sedimentary type shelves

4 months, 2 weeks ago4 months, 2 weeks agook so I don’t claim to be an expert, just putting that out there. but likely Ordovician Brachiopods. the one that resembles a ruffles potato chip looks like Zygospira Modesta. the other appears to be a different species. if you would like I could prob get you a species name to help narrow the search

I think they are holiscaphites, but there seems to be a wide range of variety. They are beautiful though.
