Hey @staci-conkling, nice find! I’ll need two things to get this marked research grade: 1) use the taxon wizard to fill in the classification field to class Crinoidea and 2) Use the link (https://rockd.org/explore) to find out whether you found this in the Fort Payne Chert or Tuscumbia Limestone and put that in lithostratigraphy. Once you’ve done…[Read more]

Are these anything? Such funky bubbling…

This is unfortunately not a fossil, still some pretty cool rocks though in my opinion! I bet it’s some chert nodules but you’d have to break them open to be sure

You might want to try & cut it open. It looks a bit like a thunderegg with the “bubbling” to it. Worth a look.

Nice Exogyra! Fill out classification, lithostratigraphy, and geochronology as well as tag me if you want it to be marked research grade!

This is called a steinkern or internal mold of a gastropod (snail). Basically a snail which has filled in with sediment which has hardened while the original shell has worn away!

This is another steinkern, or internal mold, of a high spired gastropod (snail) like Turritella (the turret snail)

Oooo I think this is a rhizolith, its something that forms when mud hardens around a plant root, but then the root rots away, leaving a trace fossil.
