5 years, 8 months ago5 years, 8 months agoHi @alex-rosas
I agree that they are frog bones, but I’m not certain they are diagnostic to the species level. The associated bones found in the same 1ft square might be from the maxilla or premaxilla. I’ll see if someone over in herpetology can tell us more.
Best,
Victor

5 years, 8 months ago5 years, 8 months ago@alex-rosas Today the most common species of deer in FL is Odocoileus virginianus but I do not know which species of deer were running around during the Pleistocene.

7 years, 10 months ago7 years, 10 months agoHey Alex (@alex-rosas), I see what you are talking about and this kind of structure can easily be misinterpreted as fossil, but it seems to me that it is just a mineral structure (lacquer or coating) from iron oxide (probably pyrite) or marcasite. I have seen lot of these structures but most of the time it was just from mineral origin. Sometimes…[Read more]

7 years, 10 months ago7 years, 10 months agoHey Alex, @alex-rosas, thank you so much for the pictures. Now I am quite sure that this is a nice example of a gap filling. The gap space was perfect for crystallization of quartz out of a silicate rich fluid. The crystals have enough space to grow and they grow all from the same origin (the edge of the gap) into the free space. That is my…[Read more]

7 years, 10 months ago7 years, 10 months agoHi Alex, @alex-rosas, from the pictures these teeth like structures look like crystallization to me. I see several crystals in different size and shape, something not unusual in concretions like this. If you think that these are fossil teeth we will have to have a closer look under the scope, better images or a single tooth to prove it. Sorry I…[Read more]

7 years, 10 months ago7 years, 10 months agoHmm, this is interesting @alex-rosas! I’m not sure what you have there. You might have to continue working on the clean-up and send in updated pictures every once in a while. Sean Moran @smoran has been working on IDing a bunch of teeth this past week — any ideas, Sean?
Keep up the good work, Alex!
Cheers,
