Hey does this belong to your collection, or is it in a collection elsewhere?

Could you add another picture with a scale bar or ruler showing centimeters or a coin? This is almost perfect for inclusion into the e-museum, it just needs a good picture showing scale.

Hey, do you have any information on this specimen, location where collected, genus, etc? If you do we can add it to the online museum. Thanks!

Digging through some old photos and I found one of the first ones we took of Bernie’s skull! Bernie, for those who don’t know, is a currently undescribed (the paper will be out sometime soon!) thalattosaur me and my father found waaaay back in 2011. They (we have at least 8 individuals) are being described by Eric Metz of the University of Alaska. This has been an example of amateur/professional partnership, me and my father found the fossils and arraigned for the landowner to donated them to the University of Oregon. My father then prepared the fossils (over 200 bones!) at OMSI’s paleolab (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), and Dr. Pat Drunkenmiller and his graduate student Eric Metz of the University of Alaska have been working on describing it. It really shows what we can do when we all put our heads together!Bernie was named after Mr. Bernard, the landowner who donated the fossil to UO. He was killed in a tragic car accident just prior to excavation. His widow has been invaluable in her continued support for paleontology on her land.

If you would like it to go into the eMuseum can you include picture with a scale of some sort (like a ruler), the formation it was collected from, age, and likely taxon? Multiple angles would be great as well. Thanks!

    • Thank you for all of the information you’ve sent so far, I am so excited! I will work on this today and upload better photos and add the information. I also deleted the other photo and post so I can re-submit the proper way. Speaking of proper submissions, I am going to spend some time watching the tutorials. lol Thank you, again, for your help!

Pterosaur or fish? Lines are fractures. 103 mya from a marine deposit (Gable Creek Formation) near Mitchell Oregon. Very thin (1/8”). Has tooth-like bumps of bone so I’m betting it’s a mandible #fossil
