I’m going to mark this as Curated until we have more information. It is certainly interesting! I love vertebrates!

Thanks @gloria-carr! It’s possible, but I still have a strange feeling I collected this specimen in the Hell Creek Formation. The matrix it is composed ofwhat looks like the freshwater shale strata of the HCF. But, it could be Pierre Shale. My only reason for stating this is because I stored it in a box with a few Xiphactinus vertebrae from the…[Read more]

Could be a vertebra (fish, shark?) cross section but without knowing the location at a minimum and formation, one cannot be sure.

Hi, if there are multiple specimens in a rock measure and photograph each one separately if you can. You can digitally add a circle around which specimen you are referring to in the gallery to make it clear. This enables paleontologists studying the specimens to decipher which one the entry is referring to.

Hi! your best bet is to use a dremel or airscribe. While a vinegar bath can dissolve the sandstone it will also dissolve the fossil shell, so your only option is mechanical removal.

hey if you can add some information about the identification we can add it to the gallery! It’s ok if you don’t know the species, family or even just order is enough. Thanks for all your submissions!

I’m thinking this might be a nummulitid based on the shape of the test and internal chambers.

So this is a Nummulites sp. Classification, starting with Kingdom, would be Protista -> Foraminifera -> Globothalamea -> Rotaliida -> Nummulitidae -> Nummulites sp.. This also indicates that the source rock was most likely the Ocala limestone and Eocene in age.

I don’t seem to find a photo of a Nummulites shell like this on the net. Any ideas of where to look?

Digging through some old photos and I found one of the first ones we took of Bernie’s skull! Bernie, for those who don’t know, is a currently undescribed (the paper will be out sometime soon!) thalattosaur me and my father found waaaay back in 2011. They (we have at least 8 individuals) are being described by Eric Metz of the University of Alaska.…[Read more]

If you would like it to go into the eMuseum can you include picture with a scale of some sort (like a ruler), the formation it was collected from, age, and likely taxon? Multiple angles would be great as well. Thanks!

Thank you for all of the information you’ve sent so far, I am so excited! I will work on this today and upload better photos and add the information. I also deleted the other photo and post so I can re-submit the proper way. Speaking of proper submissions, I am going to spend some time watching the tutorials. lol Thank you, again, for your help!
