3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months ago@mackenzie-ross-2 Looks like @charlie-smith has the taxonomy correct already. I can say that the species is M. occidentalis since M. foxii has longer leaflets.

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHello @mackenzie-ross-2, The label just says “Whitby, UK upper lias” but it is a whole bag of belemnites so I assume it is from a layer which is rife with them.

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHi @mackenzie-ross-2, I added the dimensions of the specimen, and I measured from the edge of the indentation. As for the location, it’s entirely possible that it’s originally from northern lower Michigan and was brought to newberry from a quarry.

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months ago@mackenzie-ross-2, just added a picture. But am I actually placing these in the right place for Fossilblitz or are all my specimens so far in the wrong place?

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHello @mackenzie-ross-2, I do not entirely know what you mean. All fields of the geochronology are already filled in with the same data you said.

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHi @mackenzie-ross-2 and @samantha-ocon, Thanks for getting back to me about the fossil. I unfortunately don’t have any more specifics on where it was found. I found it probably 15 years ago when I was a kid, and just kept it for all this time. Also, do you want dimensions of the rock or the specimen in the rock?

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months ago@mackenzie-ross-2 I know it’s not really a fossil but it does belong to an animal that’s been gone for over 200 years and is extinct

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHi, @mackenzie-ross-2 and @Chad-Bruce! I think photos of other sides of the fossil would be useful here, but I do see how this could be a trilobite pygidum (butt).

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months agoHi @mackenzie-ross-2 , @smoran , would you be able to unlock this specimen# 71758 so I could update the information. I heard back from Dr. Hulbert and he ID’ed this astragalus as belonging to Smilodon fatalis (UF# 258410). Thank you!

3 years, 9 months ago3 years, 9 months ago@lisa-craig I agree with @mackenzie-ross-2 I do not see any cellular detail on the cross section. It could be the cast of something or something abiotic. Stephenville is on a marine deposit so it’s more likely to be a sea creature (like a sponge) than a plant.
