This was found in central South Dakota in Sully County where I live on our farmland. Sully Co lies almost center of the state on the east side of the Oahe Dam. Our farm is located 6 miles north of Onida, SD on hwy 83 and due east another 7 miles.

I didn’t get your attachment from your last message — a more detailed SD geologic map — would you mind sending it again?
Thank you,
Gail

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoFound in Sully Co SD on a field border. Picture 2 has a men’s size 7 boot next to it for size reference. Picture 3 (image 3727) is a close-up of part of the item. It is possible to go get additional pictures of the item soon as snow is mostly gone if more detail is needed. Thank you all!

3 years, 2 months ago3 years, 2 months agoHi Walter @walter-stein !
I posted pictures of my 2 black rocks or possible bone(s). I hope you can take a look and, if you think they are something potentially, let me know. I think they remind me of something like scutes(?). They just aren’t a typical looking rock. Hope you are having a great day!
Thank you,
Gail

3 years, 2 months ago3 years, 2 months agoHi! I picked this blackish rock(?) in a sunflower field in central South Dakota. I also picked up 1 other black rock (2 total) specimen(s) on this same field which I will post in a separate post. It is heavy for its size and has a crusty grainy texture to it. Not magnetic (dang!). I can attempt more pictures if requested — the light wasn’t…[Read more]

3 years, 2 months ago3 years, 2 months agoThank you Jack for the links. I don’t think I had found that website prior as I really didn’t know it was as extensive as it is. My read on this specimen is that — yes, I thought digit/toe maybe… especially when I turned it over. It is very heavy for its size. It was found almost dead center SD in NE Sully County. I picked up some smal…[Read more]
