2 years, 8 months ago2 years, 8 months agoMost scutes are fairly small, an inch or two is average and you can hold a handful at a time. These are too big. Also, there is no distinctive pattern that would come from a living thing. I think this is a natural rock formation of some sort. Maybe @matthew-gramling could give more info

2 years, 9 months ago2 years, 9 months agoIt’s very unlikely that this is any kind of dinosaur, but it is probably a fossil of some kind. The problem is that there’s no clear indication of any bone or body structure. It looks like a random assortment of limestone. Maybe @matthew-gramling or @bill-heim would have a better idea

2 years, 10 months ago2 years, 10 months ago@matthew-gramling Based on the venation and what I could compare with I think Sphenopteris is the closest. However, I was not familiar with the some of those genera so I’m glad you brought them to my attention.

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoHello @philip-inman I think all I can say is the same as @matthew-gramling . I’m glad that Cretaceous dicots from Alaska are receiving attention again though. Just as a heads up, to my knowledge no one is working on them at the moment so it’s probably significant.
