Apologies for the delayed response. I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a terrific holiday! I know that I enjoyed lots of delicious turkey… And speaking of, here are some random factoids about turkeys! 😉

6 years, 6 months ago6 years, 6 months agoAs @kcrippen noted, Max Jones (@mjones) and Eric Poirier (@epoirier) are the external web developers and they should be able to give you some more information about the AC wizard design. To my knowledge, AC data capabilities exist but are not currently being utilized — that will be implemented in the future with a redesign of the Fossil…[Read more]

7 years ago7 years ago@bmacfadden I agree with the idea that the FOSSIL app should allow people to take photos of fossils in the field and easily upload them to the myFOSSIL website. Like the Rockd app, I imagine the app could have GPS location functionality. This could help people determine from which strata a fossil is, maybe.
Echoing @jbauer, I would want this a…[Read more]

7 years ago7 years agoTo me the “low hanging fruit” would be to snap a photo of a fossil (with a scale next to it) in the field using the myFOSSIL app and upload it directly to either (both): the “Fossils” gallery or “What is it?” forum. And to use the embedded GPS for location data, as well as other data if the user wants to provide this info (or not).
I think this…[Read more]

Claudia Grant started the topic STL (3D) Files to myFOSSIL in the forum 3D Fossils 7 years, 2 months ago
7 years, 2 months ago7 years, 2 months agoHello, I was wondering when we can start uploading STL (3D) files to myFOSSIL? Also, since these will be uncatalogued specimens, I ask if you already have a procedure on the kind of information that will be needed for ID purposes? See first attached image of a horse metatarsal 3D file. 577,411 KB
Looking forward to it.

8 years, 1 month ago8 years, 1 month agoDear Veronica–Thank you for your inquiry. The photos that you sent are definitive in my opinion. It is definitely a fossil horse tooth, likely Equus. I am copying Eric Scott above, who is a world’s authority on fossil Equus. I want him to weigh in on what he thinks your fossil horse is.
