5 years, 7 months ago5 years, 7 months agoDon’t forget to request absentee ballots for those of us traveling to GSA. I used this site: https://www.vote.org/absentee-ballot/florida/ it autofilled out much of the form and then we just have to submit it to the Supervisor of Elections office (just north of University on Main) to get your ballot.
-
Thanks, Jen! Does anyone know when early voting is? I requested my ballot a while back but have not received yet.
-
It looks like it starts Oct 22nd and goes through the 3rd of Nov so depending on other conference travel that is a great option too!
-
-
How do you go about early voting?
-
It is from 9-6 PM on the 22nd-3rd at specific locations around Gainesville, I have not voted early here but there should be clear signage and a few volunteers there to help. Here are the locations:
Supervisor of Elections Office (515 N. Main St., Gainesville)
J. Wayne Reitz Union (655 Reitz Union Drive, UF Campus, Gainesville)
Legacy Park…[Read more]

Thanks – great article.

Excellent! The story says Llyod Gunther gave thousands of specimens to KU. @egardner have you seen any of his other fossils?
-
@llundgren – Not that I’m aware of, but we have 10.2 million specimens spread across 7 buildings on campus sooooo… one day, I’m sure! lol
A quick search on “Gunther” in the invert paleo database shows many donated by Lloyd and his family: https://collections.biodiversity.ku.edu/KUInvertPaleo/

7 years, 1 month ago7 years, 1 month agoSALVAGE PALEONTOLOGY: Many years ago, I collected rare fossil assemblage from the Silurian Maplewood Shale in the Genesee River Gorge at Rochester, New York. The unit is almost impossible to collect from due to rapid decomposition of the shale. But, because of a fresh exposure of the shale, I was able to collect rare (probably new) crinoids,…[Read more]

Amazing, @samuel-ciurca! I am thrilled to hear this news. @jkallmeyer will be interested to see the rare crinoids! I wonder if anyone else in the Rochester area has been able to collect there — @dkrisher, are you aware of this spot?

nice specimen. congrats on the publication!
Hello Mister Mackenzie,
I’m french boy, I’m eleven.
I’ve post yesterday a picture « scorpio fossil », i’m thinking you’re right it’s fake. Please can you tell me how can you’ve seen the difference. Thank you so much. Reda Langlois
Hi @rda-langlois. One way of identifying fakes is seeing the exact same specimens with the exact same preparation marks. Thanks for showing us your fossils! You’ve added some nice photos.
