4 years, 1 month ago4 years, 1 month agoHi Matthew! I’m gonna tag in @SMoran, @sholte, and @jeanette-pirlo since I’m not too great with verts.

This looks like a claw or hoof, but i am not up to date with my Cretaceous taxa.
-
Thank you @samantha-ocon and @jeanette-pirlo! I have been looking at unguals of thescelosaurs and pachycephalosaurs from the Hell Creek Formation. I believe this specimen is a thescelosaur (or similar small ornithopod) ungual.
-
There is also a possibility that it is an ornithomimid claw.
-
Thank you, @Matthew-Gramling. As you probably know by now, my strength is not vertebrates. I’m going to see if I can find a dinosaur person to confirm that ID.
-
No worries! Thank you again for the help!

6 years, 10 months ago6 years, 10 months agoHi, @muhammad-usman! Interesting find! Perhaps @smoran, @sholte, or @dmitchell could help with the ID. I am curious — when you say Siwaliks, are you talking about the Himalyas? (Very cool if so!)
Any thoughts, @bmacfadden or @rleder?

7 years ago7 years agoInformal STEM Practice course this summer.
I know that several of you are interested in taking this class. But, our summers are busy and there will be conflicts. For sure any of us on the Ghost Ranch summit in mid July will not be available to take the class that day. During the summer C term there are only 12 weeks of classes. I’d say if you are…[Read more]

7 years ago7 years agoWe have opened a graduate section of Informal STEM Practice for Summer C term. I’m pretty sure that Victor is taking it. If any of the rest of you want to take the course (including via videoteleconferencing–which is definitely an option), please let me and Sharon know ASAP.
FYI, I think this might look good on your transcript AND it is very…[Read more]

Eleanor Gardner replied to the topic Maybe a fossil bone? in the forum What Is It? 7 years, 2 months ago
7 years, 2 months ago7 years, 2 months agoHi, @raymond-jaquez – It doesn’t really look like a bone to me, more like a water-worn stone. Perhaps a chunk of travertine, if you found it in the Dominican Republic.
@vperez or @smoran or @sholte might be able to determine whether or not it is bone.

7 years, 2 months ago7 years, 2 months agoI found this in the Neuse River near New Bern, NC. It is not complete but I think it is an incisor of a horse or other large mammal. It seems quite large for a horse. Any ideas?

@bmacfadden, the one UF system wasn’t allowing me to register for the class in December. I sent an email to Pam to see if she can register me for the class. How many students are required for the class to go through?
