Hi @Vperez, could you please upload photos with a plain black background, as well as a scale? It would also be useful if you included photos of both sides of the tooth. Thanks!

I think shark tooth maybe odontascps.

How’d you get a my fossil ruler? Do they have a store?

Same here.

The scale bar is from a past outreach event we did. We’re having a meeting today about our next outreach event. I’ll see if we have more left over or if we can order more!
-
Very cool, @VPerez. Can you please upload more photos from different angles?
-
Hey Sam, these last few uploads are catalogued specimens from the museum. I was just uploading to re-familiarize myself with the upload process through the app.

Victor Perez replied to the topic Can you identify this fossil? in the forum What Is It? 3 years, 10 months ago
3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoUnfortunately, I do not think this is a fossil, but it is an interesting rock. The ends seem to be layers of calcite crystals, with perhaps a carbonate mudstone in between. The odd shape would be a result of differential weathering between the calcite and the mudstone.

4 years, 2 months ago4 years, 2 months agoHi Rene, this is from an invertebrate. It’s either the part of a hinge of a clam or part of the feeding apparatus (called aristotle’s lantern) of a sea urchin. I’m sure with some photos from different angles, we could say which of the two it is.
@jbauer do you agree / can you tell which it is?

Sounds like a great opportunity for all of use to collaborate and publish on the culmination of our individual projects! Moving forward, Victor and I discussed having a short meeting to strategize what each of our contributions would look like. This being said, would everyone have 30 minutes or so prior to or after our next Paleo Tutorial meeting…[Read more]

4 years, 4 months ago4 years, 4 months agoI’m sorry I don’t really understand what you are asking. I don’t know what “authorities” you are worried about, but I cannot tell you about the legality of what you found from any photo or video. You may have to bring it to a museum and speak to someone in person.

Victor Perez replied to the topic Bone in the forum What Is It? 4 years, 4 months ago
4 years, 4 months ago4 years, 4 months agoMy assumption is that it is not a fossil, but there really is no way I can confirm that from a photo. There’s no scale bar in your photo, but it appears that the bone is too small to be from a hominid (human or neanderthal).
