5 years, 9 months ago5 years, 9 months agoBy size I’d say whale but they don’t look like bone when I zoom in. Almost like compact sand. Granted the one showing all of them, the beak like one could be rostral but I’d want better pictures especially of the broken areas to look for spongy tissue Hey @rboessenecker what do you think?

6 years, 10 months ago6 years, 10 months agoI don’t know that you’ll be able to get to species, but my guess is you’ve got an adult baleen whale (a filter feeder) and that the age is Miocene (~20-5 million years old). Where did you find them? @jnance@rboessenecker is there anything you can add from these pictures?

Hi Jennifer,
Have your experts had a chance to look at the tooth sample? Oh, I just added six new photos of another tooth that is not cleaned and hard to identify of course, but it’s strongly agreed that it came from the same animal of the animal in the first four photos you’ve seen. (recovered from the same location) Hope that helps. Have…[Read more]
Hi, Jerry! No response from the above people but let me try some other folks that I know that may have an idea of what animal the tooth belongs to… @jeanette-pirlo, @smoran, @vperez, @imagallanes, @michael-ziegler Please and thank you! Jen
hi @jerry-hughes i can’t decide if this is a barnacle or tooth. could you provide a picture of the top of the fossil. if it were a tooth then the occlusal end, but if a barnacle, then it would be the opening. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer,
I have deleted all other photos of the “tooth” and uploaded new. Note: These are two teeth which I believe belonged to the same animal in the photos. You can distinguish between the teeth by the color. The darkish teeth are all from the first tooth and the tan colored tooth is the other tooth. (Both teeth are about the size of…[Read more]
