4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoDo you mean Cypraea? Gastropoda>Littorinimorpha>Cypraeidae (possibly). From my searching I wouldn’t guess that was the genus but I’m not much of a snail expert. Let me see if I can tag anyone in. @michael-reagin @ron-voskull @jhendricks

4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoHi, @michael-reagin – is this specimen reposited in a museum collection? I noticed a string that looked like a museum identifier in the image. I have been including information such as this in the new Field Notes section so people know that it is formally stored somewhere rather than in your personal collection.
Also, we now have an entry box…[Read more]

6 years, 3 months ago6 years, 3 months agoHi Fossil Experts! @tom-piscitelli found these specimens in North Myrtle Beach, SC in November 2017.
Here is some info about the finds:
They were all beach finds with no natural outcrop. After a recent hurricane, the beach has been replenished, and Tom was told that the material was from 3 miles off shore. Tom also found more than 300…[Read more]

7 years, 2 months ago7 years, 2 months agoHi, @sherry-mathew – Can you share any locality information? (location, geologic formation, etc) Also, can you take some better-quality pictures? It is difficult to make out the material in the second, third, and fourth images.
Your first image is of bivalves (mollusks). Perhaps @michael-reagin could help with the ID?

And I’m sure @crobins would be interested in the horseshoe crab!

7 years, 3 months ago7 years, 3 months ago@lance-comfort – It’s not that there’s no interest, it has just been an extremely busy week. I apologize for the delay. I’m not an oyster specialist. Perhaps @lmccall could provide some assistance? She’s in your general region. Or perhaps @michael-reagin could help? He is very knowledgeable about mollusks.

7 years, 6 months ago7 years, 6 months agoHi Everyone! I found this fossil in Rattlesnake Creek here in Gainesville, FL after Hurricane Matthew. The way it’s broken makes it a tricky one to identify. Let me know what you think it is! I’ve uploaded photos from a few different angles to help you out. It’s about 2 cm vertical length.

Littorinimorpha is the correct order for Cypraeidae however the shell above is not Cypraeidae. I’ll have to do some research for the correct Genus/species.
